ColorLines reports that the upcoming Broadway season will debut the work of three black female playwrights:

  • Katori Hall’s “The Mountaintop,” opening October 13th and starring Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett,
  • Lydia R. Diamond’s “Stick Fly” produced by Alicia Keys opening December 8th, and
  • the always loved Suzan-Lori Parks debuting a revised version of “The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess.

As Kenny Leon, the director of both “The Mountaintop” and “Stick Fly” told the New York Times, “I can’t remember the last time there were three women playwrights on Broadway during the same season, let alone three African-American women.”

Mmm… the sweet smell of diversity. Read (and watch!) more on these upcoming productions here.
