Last Wednesday, one of my favorite duos, J*Davey hit the stage at the Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood as part of LA Weekly’s Replay series where “local buzz bands” in LA cover their favorite albums.

July 20: Nocando plays DJ QUIK RHYTHM-AL-ISM
August 3: Sun Araw + Warm Climate plays Teenage Fanclub’s Bandwagonesque
August 10: Nite Jewel plays Kraftwerk’s Computerworld
August 17: J*Davey plays The Police’s Zenyatta Mondatta

Lead singer Jack Davey described The Police’s Zenyatta Mondatta as “a big jam session,” and that’s definitely the vibe that they created. It was a little disappointing to find tables, chairs, and a dinner minimum at the show instead of a packed crowd of true fans, but the music was smooth and it was fun to see the band improvise their set on the spot. Extra points for Jack Davey jamming on stage with baby on the way.

Check out this clip of “Voices Inside My Head,” a now classic tune in house music mixes…
